Her intensely personal lyrics grabbed the headlines, but the bravest departure here is the way Morissette's unique vocals stand naked in the mix--a technique that drives home the painful honesty of tracks like "Right Through You," "Forgiven," and "All I Really Want." Sheryl Crow or an earthier Tori Amos are fair analogies, but Morissette is a genuine original with a rare ability to make listeners care, think, and question. --Jeff Bateman

 "''simply the best''" 2010-09-02
By Andre Tucker
I truly love the way she sings. This is coming from a african american who listens to jimi hendrix, goo goo dolls and my favorite legend kurt cobain from nirvana, but alanis morissette is a true lyricist and vocalist. I sat back and listen to her sing and she fills my mind with interesting imaginations. She is a true artist.

 "I Really Like This" 2010-07-02
By Amanda L. Davis (Adrian,MI USA)
I really do like this CD accept for "You Oughtta Know," which is one of the most anoying songs ever made. It's funny how so many great songs can be paired with one horrible one. It doesn't ruin the album though because CD players have skip buttons.

 "Substance" 2010-06-22
By Tsurera
This album has something that many, MANY, of the songs out today lack- Substance.
The songs are actually about something.
Being hurt, falling 'head over feet' in love, dealing with life's idiosyncrasies. The emotions in the album feel real.
The songs are not about ass, tits, getting laid or making money. Shocking I know.

A fantastic album.

 "15 years later..." 2010-06-02
By kut17 (UT, USA)
I am a very picky person when it comes to music. I'm so picky, I have only used 3GB of my 160 GB iPod. I rarely find a new artist or band I really like enough to add to my music library. This album is what brought Alanis to my attention. Normally, I wouldn't even listen to this style of music twice as my favorite type of music is pop with R/B, electronica, and dance influences. This album is hardly that.

One day (sometime in 2005) my brother was playing "Jagged Little Pill" in his bedroom and the attraction was instant. I loved her style, the sounds, and the unique quality and talent this album possesses. It has a rough element to it (seems like she recorded each song in one take), and yet you can tell it's been professionally produced with a lot of nice alterations. And the choice of instruments and the way they're used is unlike any I have heard or have yet to hear 15 years later.

After acquiring this album on my own, I realized that I had been listening to Alanis for as long as I can remember when her songs were on the radio. It brought back good memories of growing up in the 90s. It has the nice, melodic songs like "Head Over Feet" and "You Learn" while having the fun and upbeat songs like "All I Really Want". And it of course has the infamous angry songs (namely "You Oughta Know"). In addition, several songs show off the power she holds in her voice ("Mary Jane", "Forgiven", and "Wake Up"). The album covers so many emotions it's really quite an adventure listening to it.

Unfortunately, this is probably the best album we can expect from Alanis. During this time in her life, she was going through so many mental problems and her music was her way to keep her sanity. Nowadays, she experiences what seems like nothing but peace and happiness and other weird hippie stuff. It shows in her music. Sometimes people don't want to listen to uplifting music, we want to listen to reality, anger, sadness, and depression (all of which are included on "Jagged Little Pill".) Her songs now aren't as good anymore. As horrible as it sounds, I wish she would turn into a mental case again so we could get some better music from her :). Occasionally she'll come out with another great song to add to the list, but none of her albums can even compare to this gem she wrote. It's amazing.
